Comments about child who did not stand for Pledge of Allegiance, unveil nation's racism

A teacher has been accused of assaulting a child who chose not to stand for his class’s Pledge of Allegiance ceremony.  The boy, Stone Chaney, age 11, said it was his decision to forego the patriotic gesture, often recited at the beginning of the day in American schools. The comments on this story are showing the depth of how depraved our nation has become.

Similar protests have been made by professional American football and basketball players during the national anthem.

Stone was in his first week at East Middle School in Farmington Hills, Michigan, when he opted to remain seated during the flag allegiance.

“The teacher consultant comes up behind me and snatches me out of my chair violently,” Stone told local TV. “I was so confused. I didn’t know what was going on.”

“I don’t stand because I don’t pledge to a flag,” he said. “I pledge to God and family.”

The next day, 8 September, Stone was reportedly shouted at by another teacher for the same reason.

The teacher accused of assaulting him has now been placed on administrative leave.

But Stone said he was left feeling unsafe at the school because he didn’t know “what they’re going to do next”.

His father, Brian Chaney, said Stone had been protesting flag allegiance for several years for civil rights reasons but it had not been a problem before.

He told the Washington Post: “What we see on the TVs, what’s going on in America, it just came to my living room. Tears are done. I’m mad now. We’re looking for accountability.”

In a statement, Farmington Public Schools, said: “The District fully supports the right of each student to participate or not in the daily Pledge.

“The teacher allegedly involved in the incident has been placed on administrative leave. At this time, the District cannot speculate about the outcome of the pending investigation.”

In 1943, the Supreme Court ruled students can make their own decision over participating in the pledge.

The Comments

Comments to this story have appeared elsewhere on the internet, and show how divided, racist, bigoted, and uniformed the nation’s populous has become. While some will read these comments and agree with the sentiments put forth, we read them and weep. Let us remind all American’s that the right of expression and freedom of thought are pillars of our democracy. Unfortunately, so many Americans now think of “freedom” as defined only by their narrow viewpoints.

To blacks that don’t like it here you can go to any country in Africa and live and see how fast you come running back.

Well, you know what? We’re all getting tired of this! America is one of THE BEST countries to live in. We can’t build houses fast enough in California! If you’re that unhappy here LEAVE! Make room for someone who really wants to be here! Enough of this stupidity!

Assaulting a child? Just exactly did this teacher do? Was the kid injured in any way? does he have bruises? was he bludgened? Was he punched, kicked, slapped, had his arms wrenched, his ears pulled, was he pummelled into a coma? Is he in intensive car right now? The photo shows nothing even remotely indicative of an assault, just a kid with a look of indiference on his face. One thing for certain, the kid was setting a really bad example of defiance and disobedience. NO DOUBT other immature kids would emulate his behavior; just look what Colin Kapernick started; and I’d wager that this kid’s little protest is a direct ripple effect of that.

Just give him lower grades. Tell every teacher that he does not stand so they could give him a lower grade. When I grew up everyone stood and recited pledge to a flag. But back then we did not have snowflakes.

Question…. If the American flag is so offensive because it represents a government and nation that openly mistreats and targets the black race why are so many black people applying for and receiving financial assistance from the same government they claim is trying to oppress them? You don’t have a job or any visible means of legal income yet you manage to have a house to live in, a new car to drive around in, the latest and greatest cell phones, food in your refrigerator and plenty of money to party at the clubs with every weekend. As a group you’ve been given every educational and financial advantage possible and yet you are the only group that failed to benefit…
